Pisces Rising Personality

The ascendant sign in astrology is not the same as your sun sign. Whereas your sun sign is determined based on which sign the sun was in when you were born, your rising sign is the sign which was ascending on the eastern horizon at your exact time of birth. It’s a point on the first house cusp that sets up our entire birth charts. Keep in mind the 1st house rules all matters of self– from perception, appearance, identity, first impressions, among other “firsts” in our lives. The ascendant is arguably the most important part to writing horoscopes and interpreting birth charts.

Why, may you ask? Astrology is largely interpreted from a geocentric viewpoint– meaning our observations are based on how celestial activity is perceived from our position here on Earth. Hence, why our ascendant has to do with self-perception and identity. However, which house your sun and other planets will occupy are based on the ascendant. For example, having a Cancer ascendant with a Capricorn sun places the native’s sun sign in the 7th house (opposite of the 1st).

The midheaven/zenith (MC), nadir (IC), descendant (DS), and ascendant (AS) are all points that mark the gangular house cusps. It isn’t just an “angle”. Remember the angles are the squares that set up the chart’s quadrants. The AS/DS/MC/IC are exact perpendicular points to each other that represents the most important areas of our lives— identity, family, friends/lovers, and ultimately our soul’s purpose.
Pisces ascendants usually have a Sagittarius MC /Gemini IC. In rarer cases, one can also have a Scorpio MC/Taurus IC.

“Ascendant” and “rising” sign are synonymous.

Pisces Ascendant Overview

Having a Pisces ascendant can make any sun/moon duo timeless and enduring. They exert a certain softness that can mislead others into thinking their emotional depth is where it ends. Despite this ‘softness’ generally associated with Pisces, however, they can have surprisingly strong and multidimensional personalities. The irony here is the masking effect that results because they usually have a way of standing out (for better or worse). What distinguishes them from other ascendants is their enchantment for the past and yet a distant craving for reformation— which is either of empowerment or detriment to how they ultimately show up as their most authentic self.

Their timelessness can be seen through their taste in anything vintage or classic. Their style can go anywhere between thrift store swag, 80s Mercedes grunge, to Hepburn chic. Truthfully, many Pisces ascendants can intentionally mislead with their appearance, style, and other forms of physical self-expression to hide a certain part of who they are. This applies to women, men, and non-CIS alike. Their eyes are their most defining physical feature. Alluring and captivating in size, roundness, and often even in color. Note they communicate and express through their eyes. Carrying a dreamy glaze that make their tendencies to deeply ponder quite obvious to other people. Which, they’re sometimes misjudged for being ditzy or “spacey”. Also don’t be surprised if they have a weird thing against gross looking feet and/or a high priority for pedi care, as Pisces rules the feet and toes.

As Gemini is usually the IC, the native could’ve been a bit mischievous and non-conforming growing up, which may have complicated other family relationships or the friend groups they ran around town with. Others may have experienced a literally “divided” situation, such as rivalry within the household, transferring school to school in the area, split family expectations, or anything related. In more positive cases, it could simply be the native took on multiple interests as a child and was able to experiment with their creativity while the parents, say, wanted them to chase an intellectual pursuit. Despite the native having an enthusiasm to learn, their split situation at home may have caused stress, anxiety, or complacency even. It’s usually what pushes them towards any art form, whether it’s music, painting, writing, and even all of the above. Any expression of the subconscious mind helps them process and understand their internal experiences, as the IC rules our upbringing and the wounds and gifts resulting from it.

There’s an underrated leadership and/or influence to this placement that makes them an underdog in disguise. Of course, it’s not often they actually pursue this (unless other parts of their chart suggest otherwise). Having Virgo as the descendant adds a bit of a hermit energy to how the native interacts with their peers and social circles. Again, it has nothing to do with likability— after all, this placement is highly likable. The conflicting viewpoints from the Gemini MC can result in the native overthinking how they engage with others. They also aren’t outcasts. Either: 1) they either look like an outcast yet people think their personality is ballin’ as hell – or- 2) they don’t look like an outcast yet feel within them they don’t belong anywhere. It’s a strange, strange world they live in. In turn, they expect a lot from themselves to compensate in this area. Either they felt they couldn’t fully be at peace mentally, or, they just had to deal with what felt as a lack of belonging. Cliques are not so much their thing, though they are team oriented and work well with others in other settings. Many also jump clique to clique, being the common acquaintance between many. Definitely don’t be surprised if they get involved socially or in the community; however, there’s a lingering detachment with them to where it’s hard to call them legit “sociable”.

Thankfully, their Sagittarius MC inspires them to pursue expansive opportunities they need to find this fulfillment. It’s big “f—k it, I’ma do what I want” energy. Foreign exchange students and/or global-mindedness are quite common with this placement. They often come down with a case of wanderlust on both geographic and spiritual proportions. Career wise, anything in the artistic, spiritual, occult, and esoteric realms is possible. Whether it’s philosophy, religious studies, international studies, or any of the humanities or social sciences such as history, psychology, anthropology, sociology, geography, archaeology, or anything related.

Depending on other parts of the chart, the natural sciences— such as careers in environmental studies, biology, parks systems, or anything maritime is also possible. Hence, why this is also a popular placement for those who serve in the military or other diplomatic relations. To include a strong inclination towards environmentalism. Especially with an air or fire sun, it isn’t surprising to see them as public figures or in the business realm. However, it’s often in the hospitality, travel, or even medical industries. Some may even find careers in event planning, nursing, hospital management, pharmaceutical sales (or pharmacy period), and even photography. In the rare case of a Scorpio MC/Taurus IC, expect an occult or esoteric focus on the personality— to include an upbringing focused on pushing down instead of stirring up. Scorpio MC also has huge implications for mental health, which, is why many pursue a career in this area as well.

As Pisces rules the feet, mobility is of importance to the native’s life. They don’t have to necessarily move place to place, but they often have strong cultural affinities they think is worth exploring. Even if they’re generally steadfast with change, exposure to anything fundamentally different from what or who they are is refreshing and reassuring for them. Getting lost in past thought can make it harder to move forward, so this exposure is important for them to grow. There’s a reason why many find fascinations with anything medieval/historical, celestial/intergalactic, aeronautical, or anything out of this lifetime. They’re also attracted to vastly contrasting geographic altitudes such as beaches (lower) or mountains (higher). It doesn’t always mean a knack for travel, but, don’t be surprised if the native does. Pisces was once considered a co-ruler of Jupiter (until Neptune was discovered in 1846), to include having Jupiter empowering the midheaven. Expect a Pisces ascendant to embody general similarities as Sagittarius.

As Pisces generally rules the 12th house of self-undoing and self-suppression, having this placement on the ascendant can feel a bit nagging and exhausting for the native. Undoubtedly, this placement is packed with creative potential and a yearning to be something. Then again, they can be reserved and find comfort in withdrawal. Solitude is their safe space considering they may feel they’re not as accepted as their peers or even family members. The frustratingly ironic thing about it— their uniqueness is why people like them. It tends to be capital those around them benefit from. So how does one not express their truest self when their personality is almost contagious? Well, the Pisces ascendant is notorious for self-sabotage… and that’s that. Their soul’s journey is focused on overcoming such an obstacle to fulfill the highest version of themselves, their talents, and ultimately their spirit.
